New Additions to the Mattair Fleet
September 29, 2026Project Spotlight: Air Handling Unit Installation in Sheffield
Our team has recently been on site in Sheffield, completing the installation of two new Air Handling Units (AHUs) for a local hotel.
The project involved installing two units serving very different areas of the hotel, with the swimming pool AHU requiring a carefully planned approach due to restricted access to the internal plant room.
Providing Fresh Air for Guest and Leisure Areas
The first AHU was installed to provide fresh air to several key areas on the hotel’s ground floor, including the reception, treatment rooms and exercise studios.
Effective ventilation is an important part of maintaining a comfortable indoor environment, particularly across busy guest areas and leisure facilities. The new unit will help provide a consistent supply of fresh air for both guests and staff.
Overcoming a Challenging Plant Room Installation
The second AHU was installed to serve the hotel’s swimming pool area and presented an interesting installation challenge.
With the plant room located internally and access to the area restricted, bringing the AHU into the building as a complete assembly simply wasn’t possible.
Site access therefore needed to be considered from the design and manufacturing stages of the project.
The solution was to manufacture the AHU in three separate sections. Each section could then be individually lifted into the building, carefully manoeuvred through the available access route and positioned within the plant room.
Once all three sections were in place, our team carefully assembled the AHU to create the completed unit.
Planning for a Successful Installation
From the initial lifting and delivery through to sectional assembly and final positioning, the project is a great example of the importance of considering installation requirements early in the process.
Plant room location, access restrictions and the size of equipment can all have a significant impact on how an installation needs to be approached. By taking these factors into account during the design and manufacturing stages, even challenging installations can be completed successfully.
The project photographs provide a great view of the process, showing the AHU sections being lifted and delivered, manoeuvred into the building, assembled within the plant room and finally installed in position.
A fantastic effort from everyone involved in delivering another successful AHU installation.
