Air Conditioning Condenser Noise Reduction: Overcoming a Challenging HVAC Installation

Every air conditioning project comes with its own set of challenges. Recently, the Mattair team completed an air conditioning condenser noise reduction project at a local church, where the existing equipment was causing unwanted noise in the surrounding area.

Our aim was to find an effective way to reduce noise levels while allowing the existing air conditioning system to continue operating efficiently.

The Challenge

The existing condensers were operating effectively, but the noise generated by the equipment was having an impact on the surrounding environment. With the units located at a church, reducing noise levels while maintaining the performance of the existing system was particularly important.

Following an assessment of the installation, we identified a practical solution: fitting purpose-designed acoustic silencers to the top of the existing condensers.

Planning a Safe Installation

The acoustic silencers were specifically designed to help reduce the noise generated by the condensers without preventing the equipment from operating effectively.

However, their size, weight and location presented an additional challenge. It wasn’t possible to simply lift the silencers into position manually, so a crane lift was required.

Careful planning and coordination were essential to ensure the silencers could be safely manoeuvred into position and installed with minimal disruption to the site.

Air Conditioning Condenser Noise Reduction Solution

Once safely lifted into place, the acoustic silencers were secured to the condensers, providing an effective air conditioning condenser noise reduction solution while allowing the existing equipment to continue operating as required.

Rather than replacing equipment that was otherwise functioning effectively, this approach provided a practical and cost-effective solution tailored to the requirements of the site.
