August 19, 2026Mattair Supports the Work-wise Foundation Summer Academy
This month, our Technical Sales Director, Ian Fisher F.Inst.R, was delighted to once again support and be involved in the Work-wise Foundation Summer Academy – an initiative he looks forward to supporting each year and one that helps inspire the next generation of STEM and manufacturing talent.
Designed for students aged 14–18, the Summer Academy gives young people the opportunity to explore careers in STEM and manufacturing while developing valuable skills for the workplace. Over the course of the programme, 17 students took part in activities focused on key employability skills, including teamwork, communication, leadership, CV writing and interview techniques.
As part of this year’s Academy, Ian was invited to become one of the programme’s ‘Dragons’, with students challenged to develop their own STEM-based game before pitching their ideas to the panel.
For Ian, being involved with the Summer Academy each year is always a rewarding experience – not only for the students taking part, but also for the employers who have the opportunity to share their experience and engage with young people considering their future careers.
“It was brilliant to see the enthusiasm, creativity and confidence of the students. Experiences like this give young people a valuable insight into the opportunities available within STEM and manufacturing, while giving employers the chance to engage with the talent of the future.”
At Mattair, we believe it is important to encourage young people to explore the wide range of career opportunities available across engineering, refrigeration, air conditioning and the wider STEM and manufacturing sectors. Initiatives such as the Summer Academy play an important role in developing skills, building confidence and helping young people make informed decisions about their future careers.
A big thank you to the Work-wise Foundation for once again organising such a worthwhile event, and congratulations to all 17 Summer Academy graduates on completing the programme.
